The exhibition Hverfing/Shapeshifting brings together renowned artists from Iceland and the United States to create site-specific installations specifically for the interior spaces of the Verksmiðjan building, a former herring oil factory at the beautiful location of Hjalteyri in the north of Iceland. The factory, its history, and its proximity to the sea and nature serve as the reference for the newly created works by the artists, who address themes of cultural and natural values.

Á sýningunni Hverfing/Shapeshifting í Verksmiðjunni á Hjalteyri mætast listamenn frá Íslandi og Bandaríkjunum til þess að skapa staðbundin innsetningarverk inn í rýmið. Verksmiðjan, saga hennar og nálægð við Norður Íshafið og náttúruna þjónar hlutverki bakgrunns en einnig ramma fyrir ný verk listamannanna, sem að tengja við stef menningarlegra og náttúrulegra gilda, en einnig yfirvofandi ógnvænlegar breytingar vegna hnattrænnar hlýnunar – áhrif þeirra og ófyrirsjáanlegar afleiðingar á samfélög, umhverfi og náttúru.
